After having grew suspicious of what could be lying underneath, a man in China decided to break open the tiles and cement of his rental property’s living room floor.
According to a report by Oriental Daily, the man in Shandong, China, decided to do this after seeing his small black dog constantly scratching at the living room tiles in one particular spot, where the tiles seem to not match the tiles of the rest of the home, by colour.

At first, he tried to get in contact with his landlord through a property agent, but the agent told him that the landlord was uncontactable. All this time, his dog continued to scratch at the floor and bark at it at night.
Feeling nervous and suspicious that the landlord may be hiding something in the floor, the man shared his predicament online, where some speculated that the unmatched tiles “are exactly the length of a person“.
The man even visited the unit below his rental property to gain some answers from the resident there, but found the unit to be empty.
Taking matters into his own hands
Finally, the man gathered tools and smashed open the tiles and cement of the floor to solve the mystery.

He ultimately found 5 ancient copper coins wrapped in a red cloth, which are believed to be the ‘Five Emperors’ Coins’, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.
Feng Shui enthusiasts consider them auspicious symbols meant to ward off evil spirits and attract wealth. They suggested that the landlord may have buried them in the property in accordance with traditional customs.
While the coins may be considered auspicious, the man has decided to move out of the property soon, but not before compensating the landlord for the damage to their floor.
