When dining in restaurants, we usually ask to pack the leftovers if we can’t finish them in one seating. There are times when additional charges are imposed and the same goes for Chef Ammar’s restaurant.
Chef Ammar is well known for his Middle East cuisine, especially his generous portion of Nasi Arab which often made headlines during Ramadhan last month. Recently, there have been some complaints from customers who are apparently not happy that Chef Ammar charges an additional price for takeaway.
With the upcoming surge of prices in necessities, perhaps this shouldn’t be a surprise as some places have also imposed additional charges for takeaway before the increase in prices.
On Saturday (21 May), Chef Ammar personally clarified the issue himself via a Facebook post.
“Please lah, my containers cost me money too”
In his Facebook post, following the “noises” made by some customers regarding the extra charges for takeaway, the chef revealed that it is not only due to the containers, but also the fresh salsa, gravy and salad that he needs to give for takeaway.
“I am not making money from the takeaway container. I hope you understand the cost of food and other related matters,” Chef Ammar expressed.

Reasonable price & tasty food, why not?
While he did not state the amount of the additional price for takeaway, most netizens agree that a takeaway typically comes with an extra price. As long as the additional price is reasonably charged and the food is delicious, they believe that the customers will understand.
In the meantime, some netizens have also asked customers to bring their own containers if they do not wish to spend money on takeaway charges.
While his explanation is mostly well-received, some people have also reminded Chef Ammar to state the takeaway charges clearly to his customers.
As some places do impose additional charges for takeaway, do you think Chef Ammar’s explanation justifies it? Or do you think takeaway orders should never come with extra fees?
