If you’ve ever lived with housemates, you’ll understand the struggles of putting up with some of them!
A user on Twitter recently shared a post from Facebook of a set of rules someone posted in a group for room rentals in London. The woman advertising the room started the post by saying that she has had multiple bad housemates this year and she does not want to waste her time and energy anymore, hence why the list was created.
Her post was pretty lengthy, with 11 rules listed out in total. Here are just some of the more bizarre ones we found on the list. Check it out for yourselves!
1. “I need you to be out of the house from 9am to 5pm on weekdays.”
She explained how she works from home and needs the place all to herself during working hours. She prefers not to have housemates who are students that leave the house only to go to classes on random days for a few hours or those who simply stay home all day long to chill. Nevertheless, she has no qualms about weekends.
2. “You’re not allowed to laugh out loud after 11pm.”
The new housemate has to be quiet and considerate, she insisted. You can’t even be on Skype, not even if you talk quietly. She adds how you need to use headphones or have your volume as low as possible if you want to watch movies or listen to music/podcasts.
3. “You need to have friends.”
She says the new housemate should not spend time binge-watching TV shows or talking on the phone for hours. She even urges them to get a full-time job or find something interesting to do with their lives.
“My life revolves around my laptop when I work at home but I don’t want any new housemates to assume that it’s OK for them to do the same.”
4. “If you have to run to the toilet 15 times a day, don’t move in here.”
If you spend a long time in the loo, this is not the place for you.
She claims the housemate that will be moving out soon spends too much time on the toilet. Hence, she will limit the morning bathroom runs to take less than an hour as she doesn’t want people to wait longer than half an hour or wake up way earlier (and potentially wake others too) just to take a shower.
5. “No cooking before 8.30am and after 11pm.”
When it comes to cooking, any meal that requires pots and pans is not allowed before 8.30am and after 11pm. She does not tolerate those who are in the kitchen for hours cooking or preparing elaborate meals including baking. Apparently, she wants someone who’s sophisticated enough that does not to live out of canned food and drinks beer every day.
“If you ONLY eat cooked/fried meals because you don’t know how to make a sandwich, this isn’t a place for you.”
6. “If you have guests 3 times a week, it’s too much.”
She adds how boyfriends/girlfriends coming over is fine but if they sleepover more than 3 times a week, they should be paying rent just like the others.
“If you must see your partner that often, you should live with them, not with us.”
Finally, she ends her post by saying,
“Most of these things are pretty much common sense and other things are my personal preferences. If your lifestyle is similar to mine, you’re more than welcome to come around for a chat.”
“I’m quite easy-going and I ‘live and let live’.”
