As we are a relatively small nation in terms of size and population, it often makes us excited and becomes a big deal whenever one of our local artists or personalities become known globally.
It makes us even more excited when we see famous personalities from abroad express how much they love our culture, food and people as much as we do!
Recently, Turkish celebrity chef and internet personality Nusret Gökçe, famously known as Salt Bae, posted some selfies on his Instagram a couple of days ago.
He was one of the many famous faces that attended the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar and apart from going to watch football matches, the restaurant owner had also met with many political leaders around the world including our very own Agong.
In an Instagram post, the restauranteur posted a series of photos showing him posing together with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, His Excellency Sheikh Joaan, and Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah with a caption that reads, “I love you all more than football”.
If you were unaware, our King is currently in Qatar for a respectful visit and a meeting with His Royal Highness Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim in Doha, Qatar.
Bombarded by Malaysian netizens
Following his picture with His Majesty, many netizens, especially Malaysians, flooded the comments section.
Some expressed their joy that the 2 public figures met.
However, others accused the celebrity chef for how he addressed the Agong in the caption as well as the fact he so casually placed his arm around the King.
“How (can) you mention the King of Malaysia’s name with (only his) first name!”
“Respect the king, it’s not someone (that) you hold,” commented another user.
What do you think of it? Do you think that it is disrespectful of him?
