When it comes to politicians, the overriding stereotype is that they do not do enough for the rakyat and that whatever they do is in their own interests.

However, a select few have been praised for their tireless work in trying to improve the communities which they represent.

Recently, ADUN for Bukit Gasing, Rajiv Rishyakaran was praised by netizens after a timetable of all the upcoming workshops, classes and activities he organised went viral on social media.

In a response to the Kumpool van-hailing initiative brought to Petaling Jaya by Rajiv, Twitter user Hadi Azmi expressed his appreciation for the ADUN.

Rajiv always performs. PJ has a lot of old people and he always organises smartphone classes for them. This month there is a barista workshop, last month there was a workshop on how to start a business,” he said.

“Kumpool will be very useful as a lot of old people here do not have a car and would often have to walk to the bus stop.”

He then shared a timetable of all the activities that Rajiv has organised for the month of April.

Such activities include a recycling initiative, bouldering, smartphone class, barista training workshop, human trafficking forum and a legal aid session.

Other residents agree!

Hadi’s tweet has amassed over 1,587 likes and 948 shares. Plenty of other Bukit Gasing residents also expressed their gratitude and appreciation towards Rajiv.

Rajiv really performs, I live under his area and he and his team have never missed a celebration and have always made banners and tons of activities,” commented a user.

“People like him deserve to be voted for as he really works hard. Well done Rajiv.”

Some say that other politicians should be the same

Meanwhile, some netizens wish that other MPs and ADUNs do the same things he is doing.

“What is vital is that ADUNs and MPs ensure their services are visible and done with transparency. How many MPs and ADUNs do this” said one user.

Another netizen suggested for there to be a portal which lists down all the activities and events which MPs and ADUNs organise.

“Easier to pin point which MP performs and which do not during their term,” they said.

We hope that more ADUNs and MPs emulated Rajiv’s hardwork and positivity in creating a better community.
