The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has been getting some bad press recently due to some bad apples in its ranks whose regrettable actions besmirch the sanctity of the badge. With that in mind, it’s important not to generalise everyone in uniform based on these regrettable instances as they’re only a minority and not representative of all police personnel.

What we tend to forget is how most of these police personnel face a thankless task daily and risk their lives for the safety of others.

Take this recent video shared by PDRM on its Facebook page for example. Recorded on a busy highway at Kampar, Perak, a policeman from the PDRM Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) can be seen risking his life so that the safety of road users can be safeguarded.

In the video, an object can be seen in the middle of the two-lane expressway, which is believed to be the sidewall of a tyre of the lorry parked in the expressway’s emergency lane which suffered a blowout. The yellow lorry is visible in the video at the far end of the road.

A policeman can then be seen standing on the emergency lane and waiting for cars to pass him before quickly grabbing the object and throwing it away.

Before he could do this, a couple of cars could be seen driving at a high speed and passing the policeman, showing how dangerous it really was.

In the caption of the Facebook post, PDRM revealed that two policemen were involved in removing the object from the expressway. They are Sergeant Mohamad Faizal bin Abd Hamid and Lance Corporal Mohd Fakharazi Bin Hasan of the JSPT’s Ipoh-Tapah Expressway Mobile Patrol Vehicle (EMPV).

Moreover, according to JSPT’s Facebook page, the two noticed the object obstructing traffic while patrolling the area yesterday (15 February) and acted quickly to remove it so that it wouldn’t cause any accidents. The incident took place at KM310 North-bound of the PLUS Expressway

Malaysians praise and thank the Abang Polis for his brave action

In the comments section, Malaysians saluted the policeman for his brave actions to safeguard the safety of others.

One Malaysian congratulated the officer for his action and said that thanks to him, road users’ safety at the expressway was safeguarded.

Meanwhile, another commenter lamented how road users didn’t slow down their vehicles or give way for the policeman to remove the object.

The commenter added that these drivers are not cooperative and ignorant of the basics of road safety.
