Parents are often not appreciated enough, and even at times, taken for granted.

However, a parent’s love to their child often knows no boundaries. In a Facebook post by GMB Akash, the unconditional love of a disabled father was met with much sympathy and sadness.

MD. Kawsar Hossain, the man of the story, is a father of two who begs for a living, not by choice. And here is his story.

”Yes, I am a beggar. Ten years ago I had never thought in my nightmares that I have to live by begging from people”

Hossain is not a beggar by choice. His worst fear came true when he was met with an accident which changed his entire life. He was travelling in a bus when the bus fell from a bridge. Despite being in such a major accident, he managed to get out alive, but it came at a cost – he was disabled as a result of the accident.

”My youngest son often asks me where had I left my other hand. And my daughter Sumaiya feeds me every day by saying she knows how difficult it is to do all work with one hand.”

Hossain continue to explain that he would usually place his daughter in close vicinity while he begged for money on the street. He expressed his heart-breaking embarrassment that his daughter have to witness him as he lends one hand to the others.

Hossain said that his daughter was afraid that an accident would happen to him again, so she never truly leaves him alone.

Being a beggar is no easy feat as some days, he felt like dying.

“But at night when my children fall asleep holding me, I feel that being alive is not a bad thing.”

Despite the harsh circumstances, Hossain refused to accept his fate and educates his children himself. He acknowledged that it is difficult for his children to have a normal school life due to the family’s financial difficulties and because he has trouble paying for the exam fees. However, the determined father tells his children that they can afford to miss exams as the biggest exam is the life which they are given every day.

Now here’s the tear-jerker.

Last week was a good week for the family. Hossain had save up sufficient money from begging to buy his daughter, Sumaiya a brand new dress.

”While I handed sixty pieces of five taka notes to the seller, he yelled at me by asking if I am a beggar. My daughter held my hand and cried to leave the shop by saying that she did not want to buy any dress. I wiped off her tears with one hand.”

After buying his daughter a dress, the first in two years, they went to the park to play.

“May be I will not be able to earn anything today, but I wanted to roam around with my little girl. I secretly borrowed this mobile phone from my neighbor without informing my wife. My daughter has no picture and I want to make this day memorable for her.”

He even expresses how he hopes that one day, he will be able to afford a phone so he can ‘take a lot of pictures’ of his children.

“The only bad thing [about begging] is when my daughter waits for me at the signal by keeping her head down. When I cannot look at her eye while begging.”

“But today is different. Because today my daughter is very happy. Today this father is not a beggar. Today this father is a king and here is his princess.”
