Out of love, a Malaysian senior citizen called the authorities to apprehend his 29-year-old grandson, whose life was turned upside down due to severe drug addiction.
The grandfather, who feared for his safety, contacted the authorities after his grandson, who had a history of substance abuse, began hallucinating.

75-year-old Md Akhir Hanafiah contacted the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in Kedah, stating that this was not his grandson’s first run-in with the authorities. Previously, the grandson was admitted to the recovery centre after he spent some time behind bars. Unfortunately, the time served was not enough.
His grandson’s drug abuse worsened as he continued to associate with the wrong crowd.
“His house is filled with stolen items”
According to Md Akhir, his grandson’s house is filled with stolen items, which he intended to sell so that he could fund his drug use. His grandson was also desperate for money and would always trail him closely every time the senior citizen wanted to withdraw cash.
“He would always follow me, but would only ask for RM10.”

When the addiction got worse, and his grandson started hallucinating, as well as showing no signs of recovery, he decided to contact AADK and allow them to take the necessary action against his grandson.
“I couldn’t stand him anymore. I lost my savings after I continuously gave him money, as he had no money for food. I love him, that’s why I’m doing this. He has been staying with my wife and me since he was in school.”
Md Akhir also shared that his grandson was first arrested in Gurun, Kedah, several years ago. He was previously arrested 4 times and was jailed twice, as reported by Harian Metro.
