There’s always something happening in the political scene in Malaysia that fights for the spotlight on social media every day. Just yesterday (2 August), over 100 opposition Members of Parliament (MP) gathered at Dataran Merdeka after being foiled by the police to enter Dewan Rakyat grounds.

With everyone dressed in formal attire, all MPs present were ready to take on the issues that continue to plague the country. However, they were left stranded under the hot sun for several hours as they called for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down.

Some MPs were sweating through their shirts.

While some like Alice Lau walked barefoot.

In a video she shared that was recorded by Hannah Yeoh, Alice, MP for Lanang, can be seen walking barefoot with her stiletto heels in her hands.

Hannah Yeoh, being the kind soul that she is, went to her car to get her slippers and lent them to Alice.

“I rated her slippers as the most comfortable slippers in the world! Thank you Saudari Hannah Yeoh! ?” Alice wrote in a Facebook post.

She also explained in another post why she wore high heels in the first place.

“My colleagues asked me why I wear high heels…First, because I was going to Parliament this morning, I didn’t know I had to walk on the grass field…Second, I am underheight…?”

Netizens were amused by the video, with some calling her ‘Barefooted MP’.

  • “Oh my… Barefooted YB! Take care and thank you.”
  • “Salute you. Barefooted to perform your duty.”
  • “YB Hannah really have Doraemon’s bag!”
  • “Only Sarawakians can do that these days YB…from Sibu some more”
  • “No wonder…. just now I saw someone not wearing shoes… looks like YB Lanang Alice Lau.”

In trying times like this, it’s always a wonderful sight to see true friendship develop among those with a common purpose.
