Bug are generally seen as something disgusting. But one bar in Tokyo, Japan offers some insect delicacies for all to try, STOMP reported.

Duranbar in Central Tokyo has a very special menu of desserts and drinks made with these bugs. You can get cranberry and water bug cocktail, caramelised worms with almonds and cashews, and whipped cream on giant Thai water bugs.

On February 12, 2017, the bar offered these weird dishes to daring couples and any brave customers.

Although bugs aren’t common throughout Japan, some regional cuisines do include them.

Yuta Shinohara was the genius who came up with the bug cocktail night. This event was to promote an alternative food culture in the Japanese.

He told the press,

“I love insects and I think it’s really fun to eat them.”

According to him, bugs are a sustainable food source. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that insects are a rich source of fat, protein, vitamins, fibre, and minerals.

One bold lady by the name of Sakumi Makino actually tried it out and explained the texture.

“They are crispy like the skin of walnuts and go pretty well with chocolate.”
