According to The Star, a series of banners targeting DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang were mysteriously put up in Gelang Patah, Johor by unknown parties.
The banners have a photo of the politician accompanied by English pop song lyrics as a way of saying farewell to him as a member of parliament (MP) in the constituency. Some of the lyrics featured on the banners were from popular songs like Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s ‘See You Again’, Eminem and Rihanna’s ‘Love the Way You Lie’, and ‘Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)’ by Backstreet Boys.
Six banners were spotted in the area, and they were all signed off with ‘Gelang Patah, Patah Hati (Heartbroken).’
Gelang Patah Umno division head Mohammad Khairi A. Malik said they were not responsible for putting up those banners, according to the New Straits Times.
However, he said that they would be producing their own banners to bid farewell to Lim, saying,
“We will make our own banners with a goodbye message to the Gelang Patah MP (Lim) to thank him for leaving the constituency.”
“We believe that the banners that went viral on social media were set up by locals who were angry at Lim’s decision to leave the constituency and due to him not fulfilling his responsibility as their elected representative.”
Photos of the banners quickly became viral on social media, many finding them hilarious.
One local resident, who lives near where the banners were put up, has no idea as to who may have done this, saying, “I do not know who is behind this but he has a sense of humour.”
