A woman fell into a drain in Kota Marudu, Sabah, after the pavement she was walking on allegedly crumbled beneath her feet.
Taking to its Facebook page, Marudu News explained that the woman is the second victim to have fallen at this specific location, claiming that the cement used to construct the walkway is prone to crumbling.

The outlet wrote: “Pity this sister; she fell here on the pedestrian walkway in front of the More Chance outlet, near the Kota Marudu night market. It is understood that this is the second case where someone has fallen here. The cement that was stepped on crumbled and gave way into the drain.”
“It is not that there was an existing hole. It is paved, but the structure of the cement is very fragile and breaks easily because no rebar was placed in the cement when the mould was cast. This is why this is happening. It crumbles easily and is dangerous for pedestrians.”
Difficult recovery due to drain conditions
Marudu News further explained that the woman struggled to climb out of the drain, not only because of the pain in her ankle but also due to the poor condition of the infrastructure.

“This lady was in the drain for a long time because she felt intense pain in her ankle. It was hard to get back up, coupled with the fact that the drain was considerably deep and muddy,” the post continued.
“If an elderly person were to fall in, they could end up being admitted to the hospital. To the people of Kota Marudu who often visit the More Chance and Pasar Kota Marudu area, please be careful,” it added.
