Since the passing of the late Tun Rahah Mohamed Noah last week, the government will consider changing Jalan Eaton in Kuala Lumpur to Jalan Tun Hajah Rahah in her honour.
Minister of Federal Territories, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the matter had been informed to the Secretary-General of the Ministry for further action as reported by Sinar Harian.
Apart from that, he said the process of renaming the road will have to go through several stages before it could be approved.
“We have conveyed the proposal to the relevant parties for consideration and are currently awaiting a detailed report.”
He also said that in the report, it will be explained whether the old name has any heritage and history of the country.
He added that the new name proposed later must also have certain merits because in this case, Jalan Eaton does not have too big historical facts, and this road is also understood to meet Jalan Tun Razak.
It is understood that the late Tun Hajah Rahah lived in Jalan Eaton for decades and she not only did a lot for the country but she also raised her five children alone until one of them became the sixth prime minister of Malaysia.
