After portraying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the biopic film “Anwar: The Untold Story”, local actor Farid Kamil recently shared that he is playing another iconic Malaysian figure in an upcoming figure, this time badminton legend Datuk Rashid Sidek.
Set to play in theatres next year, Farid Kamil will portray Rashid Sidek in the film “GOLD” directed by Adrian Teh, which is based on the true story of national paralympic badminton athlete Cheah Liek Hou.
According to Harian Metro, Farid Kamil said that the portrayal was a daunting test, not only because of Rashid Sidek’s stature but also because he had to lose 20kg to weigh 60kg like how the badminton legend was when he won bronze at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
The local actor asserted,
“It’s not easy to portray an athlete on the big screen, more so when it’s Datuk Rashid Sidek who as we all know, is a legend of the sports of badminton. I had to train really hard to have the same movements as him, it’s really difficult for me.
“Not only that but I had to lose weight from 80kg to 60kg to look like him and it took quite a long time, around 2 months,”
Besides Farid Kamil, GOLD will also star other local actors such as Jack Tan, Fabian Loo, Wan Raja and Yasmin Hani.
