Taking to Twitter, environmental activists Persatuan Aktivis Sahabat Alam – Kuasa took to social media, sharing their scuffle with a group of gangsters believed to be paid by a company currently carrying out illegal sand mining activities in Segari, Manjung, Perak.
In their tweet, they wrote: “This illegal activity was carried out at a designated Environmental Sensitive Area Level 1 and a landing beach for sea turtles.”
When the fighting stopped, these thugs made the situation worse by barring these group of activists from leaving their site.
“Even though police reports were made, involvement of police officers, ADUN and media, this group of thugs tried to stop us from leaving the area.”
“We urge the public to make this issue known, and ask @niknazmi as the minister, and Perak MB @saaranimohamad to take action and stop this activity.”
Additional videos showed just how devastating the illegal sand mining impact has had on the local ecosystem.
“Segari, Manjung is Perak’s one and only designated turtle landing beach. Now it is destroyed by greedy capitalists and government officials who are not stern at taking action against people who are clearly working against the law.”
Let’s hope that the relevant parties will look into this matter seriously.
