While we may think that newborn infants would be considered the apple of every parent’s eye, there are still incidents of baby dumping that continue to plague our local communities. Just yesterday, The Star reported that the corpse of a newborn infant was discovered in a trash bin in a restroom located on the Tugu Negara grounds.
According to Dang Wangi District police chief ACP Mohd Fahmi Visunathan Abdullah, the police force was alerted by a member of the public who discovered the deceased infant at 11am. Upon inspection, it was noted that the baby still had its umbilical cord attached and was only wrapped in a shawl before being dumped. How awful!
A Samoan woman has since been detained at a private clinic in Setia Alam around 2pm yesterday in connection with the case. “Investigations revealed that the woman had joined a group to the National Monument and stayed inside the toilet for more than an hour.” Mohd Fahmi said. The suspect arrived in Malaysia on 1st September for a health course before she and a group of her friends were brought on a sight-seeing tour of the city.
The body of the deceased infant has since been brought to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a complete postmortem. The female suspect was also brought to the same hospital for treatment as investigations into the case continue.
We pray that the deceased infant may rest in peace and that due justice will be served!
