Just when he thought he had lost the golden opportunity to perform the Hajj in Mecca, UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh received an unexpected piece of news that moved him to shed manly tears.
In what he dubbed the most meaningful gift from the Almighty, Akmal shared that he has been selected for the Hajj pilgrimage. In a Facebook post last night (12 January), he shared the offer letter from Lembaga Tabung Haji to visit the holy land.

The UMNO Youth Chief was scheduled to perform Hajj with his wife in Mecca in late 2025, but put his plans on hold to donate his RM120,000 savings meant for the pilgrimage to save the life of a young girl in dire need of surgery instead.
Akmal said that he chose to prioritise the child’s life over going to Mecca.
“I know my son is a good person”
Akmal called his mother to share the good news about Hajj, and teared up while doing so.
“When I am tested, when I feel like there’s nothing else I can do, Allah came to me with the most meaningful gift. Thank you, Allah, thank you, those who prayed for me. I feel small,” Akmal expressed in his post.
During the phone call, Akmal’s mother reminded him to be patient and that she knew her son had done a lot of good deeds and sacrifices, saying that he had been a good son.

Previously, Akmal not only donated RM120,000 to a family for their child’s surgery, but he also personally visited them in China, where the surgery took place and was performed by a surgeon who coincidentally hailed from Johor.
At the same time, Akmal is also facing a RM25 million defamation lawsuit, filed by Seputeh Member of Parliament (MP) Teresa Kok, as previously reported. According to him, he has never attacked anyone and was merely voicing out about issues that couldn’t be ignored.
