Seeing the current state of the country’s economy and how much the people are struggling financially, a tailor at the Bukit Jambul Complex in Penang has decided to take the approach of selling children’s clothing at insanely affordable prices.

35-year-old Mahani Udit shared that she understands the burden parents have to bear when they have to provide money for school supplies and to celebrate Ramadan and Syawal.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, Mahani, who has been nicknamed the ‘tailor gila‘ (crazy tailor), said that all the clothes she makes are designed like expensive clothing but are sold at affordable prices.

“Actually, I started selling Hari Raya clothing for children at the beginning of the year because I understand that there are parents who want to make early preparations. I conducted sales through live broadcasts on Facebook with prices ranging from RM20 to RM150 per pair, depending on the design,”

“I don’t care if I don’t make high profits, as long as children get to wear beautiful clothes at affordable prices,” she said.

Mahani does this because she understands the difficulties faced by parents in the B40 group, after having lived a difficult life as a single mother with 3 children.

“I know how hard life is. My children used to only wear clothes donated by those who care. They only knew how it felt to wear new clothes after I learned how to sew on YouTube,”

“I try to produce quality clothing and beautiful designs for cheap. Alhamdulillah, the response (from customers) is very encouraging. I am grateful for being able to generate hundreds of thousands of Ringgit in the sales of affordable children’s Hari Raya clothing,” she added.

Since January of this year, she has sold more than 10,000 pairs of children’s clothes that she sewed with the help of some workers.
