Tourist areas in Malaysia are full of people dressed in cartoon mascot outfits who earn extra money through donations and taking pictures with the general public. And in order to pull this off, these people would also have to impersonate their cartoon character’s personality.

So, with that being said, would it be normal behaviour for Elmo to punch someone?

According to a report by Kosmo, an individual wearing an ‘Elmo’ costume was seen severely punching a man to a point of drawing blood on a sidewalk outside of a shopping center in Melaka.

Someone managed to take a video of the incident, which shows ‘Elmo’ punching a man who was sitting at the sidewalk until he bled. ‘Elmo’ was then confronted by the general public, including a man in a wheelchair who was next to the victim, over his actions.

‘Elmo’ explained that he was only reacting to the victim, who apparently punched him in the stomach first.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit shared that his party has yet to receive any reports on this matter and are checking to see if the video of the incident is an old one or something that recently happened.

“We will first check whether the video is an old clip or a new one. If it just happened, we will make a report so that action can be taken,” he added.

If the victim really punched him first, do you think ‘Elmo’ should have punched him back? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
