While the idea of travelling to a foreign country is exciting, it does come with its fair share of petty pickpocketing. And if you’re not careful, you could end up getting something stolen.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, @ryreesya took it upon herself to share her experience of travelling to India. She revealed an incident that happened on the 13th of March 2024 at 9:15pm (India time) in Kolkata.

Passengers were allowed to go shopping for an hour

Reesya explained that when they were in Kolkata, India, she and the other passengers were given an hour to go shopping before boarding their flight back to Malaysia.

She recalled how they were all instructed by the tour guide to leave their belongings on the bus, as the area was notorious for pickpockets.

“We were instructed to carry only Indian rupees for shopping, and we all agreed. After nearly an hour of shopping, the tour guide, the assistant, and the bus driver waited for us on the bus. When we returned, we headed to the hotel to continue our journey to the airport.”

Members realised that some of their cash and jewellery were missing

Upon reaching the hotel, Reesya shared how one of their group members realised that RM500 was missing. This prompted everyone to check their belongings, leading to the discovery that a significant amount of cash, totaling up to RM2,000, had been stolen from various members of the group.

She added,

“My sister even lost her 10 pound thali chain, which she kept in her purse. We informed the tour guide about the missing items, to which he denied the possibility of theft from the bus.”

Reesya and the group decided to approach the bus driver’s assistant for more information since the tour guide didn’t offer much assistance when questioned.

The assistant claimed that the tour guide was alone on the bus for almost an hour, and he also affirmed that the tour guide left the bus for a few minutes and returned before all the passengers arrived.

According to the post, Reesya concluded by expressing her certainty that the tour guide had stolen passengers’ cash and thali chain.

She emphasised her need to seek justice for all the stolen cash and thali chain, and requested that necessary steps be taken into consideration.

Reesya’s sister had filed a police report on the incident on 17th of March 2024 at Tampoi Police Station in Johor.

“We have made a police report, and we are expecting advice from the police but we’ve gotten no feedback so far.”
