Forbes reported that according to economists’ estimations, Taylor Swift’s tour “will add between SGD 300-400 million (RM1.054-1.405 billion) to Singapore’s economy in Q1.”

This is certainly something that many countries in Southeast Asia are envious of after the pandemic and Indonesia vows to do the same as Singapore for other international artists.

Recently, the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has said that their country is capable of holding exclusive concerts in the future that are on par with Singapore’s hosting of Taylor Swift.

“What Singapore gives, we’ll do the same for other artists. We have to be ready to compete. If Singapore can profit, why can’t we?”

According to Tempo and Jakarta Global, they have already held a meeting on the plan and in the next 6 months, an entertainment company will be securing contracts with international artists and organising their concerts in the country.

As the superstar’s only Southeast Asian stop covers 2 weekends with a total of 6 shows, the minister acknowledged that it has generated a huge boost in income for the country via tourism.

“For two weeks, you can’t go to Singapore because there’s a Taylor Swift show there, nine days of fully booked hotels.”

We can’t deny that acts like this will bring in a lot of money, and now that our neighbours are planning for future concerts, it would be great to know what our government thinks of this.
