CNY, or any other festive season is one of the best times to bond with your relatives, whom you mostly don’t see that often. For a Malaysian woman, unfortunately, she couldn’t enjoy the celebration this year, all thanks to her unsupportive relatives.

In a confession post shared by Malaysian radio DJ Meiyan on her Facebook, the woman said it was even frustrating for her to be in the same space with her relatives, who would bombard her with questions that made her uncomfortable.

She had no choice but to entertain the questions and talk to them. During the recent CNY celebration, the woman wore only a simple t-shirt back to her hometown, and her relatives had something to say about that.

“You’re not like the other girls today. You don’t know how to dress up. It’s no wonder you’re still single.”

Ouch. That was uncalled for.

“When are you becoming a boss?”

As if the comments on her dressing were not awful enough, the relatives found it appropriate to sneak in the topic of career and money.

The woman did not disclose her job but her relative was wondering if she was ever going to become a boss.

“When are you leaving your job, run a business and become a boss?”

No, that’s not all. How could we miss the nosy relatives who silently keep tabs on your social media and report “back to HQ”?

“My cousins watch my IG stories and told my parents about what they saw.”

It’s tiring to even imagine and to the woman, she is beyond speechless when it comes to her relatives.

“Nosy relatives are really tiring me out. My CNY every year is so frustrating because of them.”

There’s a fine line between caring and simply being nosy to the point where people are uncomfortable with how much you know. How do you handle, or politely “shove off” relatives who know no boundaries?
