Making sure tenants have a positive experience should be a top priority for landlords. Unfortunately, for this landlord, dealing with such tenants wasn’t something he expected.

In a tweet that went viral from @MALAYSIAVIRALLL, a man shared an experience he had with a family he referred to as the “family tenant from hell.”

The tweet reads,

“FAMILY TENANT FROM HELL leaves arrears on electricity bill of RM 21,894.03”

Netizens were surprised to find an unusually high electricity bill of RM21,894.03 in a screenshot of a significant electric bill. While lacking detailed information, the bill showed that the premises were situated in Taiping, Perak.

Netizens had different reactions, with some blaming TNB for not disconnecting the electricity and putting the responsibility on the owner.

However, TNB clarified that only Kedai Tenaga has the authority to cut off the electricity supply, emphasizing that TNB cannot enter the premises without the account owner’s permission.

As soon as this was posted, comments started pouring in as everyone shared their thoughts on the situation.

“How is it possible for the outstanding amount to add up to that much? If you don’t make the payment within two months, your electricity could be cut off.”

“This can’t be done by a person, there’s likely a ghost in there.”

That’s why, when we rent out to tenants, we ask them to open an electric and water account. This way, if there’s any outstanding balance, tenants are responsible for covering the costs themselves.

This serves as a friendly reminder to all tenants to be considerate and respectful during your rental period.
