“Gone in 20 seconds” – 2 Men Hotwire & Steal Yamaha MT-15 Bike Parked in Front of House in Kuching

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has released a statement regarding CCTV footage of two men stealing a motorcycle parked in front of a house which has gone viral on social media.

The video, which was reposted by PDRM on its official Facebook page took place recently at Taman Malihah Jaya in Batu Kawa, Kuching, Sarawak.

According to a statement by Padawan District Police Chief Superintendent Abang Zainal Abidin bin Abang Ahmad, they have received a police report regarding the theft, whereby the motorcycle stolen as seen in the video is a Yamaha MT-15.

In the video, the Yamaha MT-15 can be seen being parked in front of the house when 2 men riding a motorcycle suddenly appeared from the left. Both of them were wearing helmets, hence their faces were not fully visible.

The motorcycle then stopped right in front of the house, with one of the men getting off the 2-wheeled vehicle and walking towards the Yamaha MT-15.

He can then be seen forcefully putting something into the Yamaha MT-15’s ignition switch to jumpstart it.

After a few seconds, the hotwiring worked and the man jumped onto the Yamaha MT-15 and fled from the scene with the motorcycle, with his accomplice following suit.

The whole motorcycle jacking took less than 2o seconds. You can watch the full video here:

 

As of the time of writing, PDRM is investigating the case under Section 379A of the Penal Code. If convicted, offenders face imprisonment of up to 1 year.

According to the Padawan District Police Chief, it is unknown whether the two perpetrators were Malaysians or foreigners.

Besides that, Abang Zainal Abidin also advised the public to add additional locks to their motorcycles should they be parking them in public spaces or places without supervision.

Furthermore, he also advised the public to be more careful when leaving valuable items and to not allow criminals any opportunities to commit crimes.
