The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested two Singaporean brothers, aged 40 and 36 respectively for allegedly abusing and sexually assaulting Tahfiz students in Tanjung Minyak, Melaka.

According to BERNAMA, the older brother is the founder of the Tahfiz centre while the younger brother is the hostel warden. Both men were arrested after PDRM received 6 police reports on the alleged abuse.

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Zainol Samah confirmed that both suspects were arrested at the Tanjong Minyak Tahfiz Centre yesterday (12 May). He elaborated,

“Six students at the centre aged between 13 and 15 lodged the reports at the Batang Tiga police station between 6.29pm and 9.13pm yesterday,”

The Melaka Police Chief asserted that 3 of the students were allegedly forced to perform oral sex on the first suspect.

The rest of the students claimed that they were physically abused by the hostel warden, including being slapped, punched, stepped on and whipped for not completing their duty to clean the centre on time.

PDRM asserted that the incidents allegedly took place at the Tanjung Minyak and Alor Gajah Tahfiz Centres, as well as at a condominium in Klebang several times.

Moreover, the victims claimed that the last incident happened on May 7. The founder has a previous criminal record for committing physical sexual abuse and sodomy in 2019.

Despite the arrests, the Tahfiz centres are still running as per usual. The case is currently being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
