It’s now 2023 and we as a society, should know that littering is a big no-no.

Recently, the Deputy Minister of Works, Abdul Rahman Mohamad posted a series of photos and tweets on his Twitter account.

He says: “I understand that many road users want to go back to the East Coast using this road. There are some who rest here because of the long journey.”

“But this is the view that I see every year. These pictures were just taken.”

The deputy minister continued and asked if this is what people want to teach their children, “keeping clean starts from ourselves, from parents’ teachings and from home.”

He states that he is upset and disappointed as there is not one ounce of responsibility in keeping the environment clean.

“After Allah has given us the rezeki to eat and a place to rest. Is this a present left to the residents of Lepeh?”

However, the deputy minister says that he is thankful towards the Jabatan Kerja Raya Daerah Lipis team for keeping the place clean. He added that they will be blessed even for doing such a small act.

Many netizens agreed with his words.

Litter Highway

“The excuse of ‘no trashcans at the RNR’ is not valid at all. Just keep it inside your vehicle and throw it when you reach your destination. Is that so hard?” asked a netizen.

Another netizen said that this is the mentality of “there’s a cleaner so let’s leave it to them”. “This is not only limited to East Coast highway users only. There are some in every state.”

“When you stop at the traffic light, just look at the side of the road. How much litter is there? Trash mentality!”

Remember, you don’t lose a thing when keeping a place clean. It’s also a collective responsibility to make sure that public amenities can be used by those after us.
