Sometimes when we hear people younger than us achieving something phenomenal, we always say the same thing, which is:
“What am I doing with my life?!”
However, we should always keep in mind that everyone takes their own pace to achieve things, so we shouldn’t ever compare ourselves to other people.
Now that I’ve given you your motivational speech, it is time to go to this story, which is about a 9-year-old boy who will be graduating in December with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
According to CNN, Laurent Simons is studying Electrical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) and he is due to graduate in December.
As for his future plans, he is planning to start his PhD in engineering while also studying for his medical degree.
The first people to discover Laurent’s talent were actually his grandparents. His parents thought that they were exaggerating until Laurent’s teachers started chiming in as well.
“They noticed something very special about Laurent.”
From then on, Laurent was given test after test, which he aced with flying colours. The teachers later on told Laurent’s parents that the boy is like a sponge.
No one knows from where Laurent’s hyper-intelligence comes from but Laurent DOES come from a family of doctors. His mother also said that she ate a lot of fish when she was pregnant.
Laurent finished the high school syllabus in one year when he was 8 years old and then continued on to university. TUE has said that they have special adjustable schedules for special students, and they have also said that Laurent is “simply extraordinary” and “the fastest student” that they’ve ever had.
“Not only is he hyper-intelligent but also a very sympathetic boy.”
Laurent is now being sought after by prestigious universities around the world to continue his PhD.
Laurent told CNN that he like electrical engineering a lot, and he also wants to study “a bit of medicine” on the side.
His parents, on the other hand, have been trying to make sure that Laurent is getting enough playtime and making sure that he is not too serious.
“We need to find a balance between being a child and his talents.”
Laurent has said that he enjoys playing with his dog and also his phone. But the one dream that he has is to develop and create artificial organs. That is certainly not something that you think would come out of a child’s mouth!
Before he goes on to continue his studies at a university of his choice, Laurent says he wants to go to Japan for a vacation to take a little break before jumping back into the academics.
That’s certainly a very great achievement! We really do hope that Laurent will be able to achieve his dreams of making artificial organs as it will really help out!
