With Deepavali just 2 weeks away, many of us have started to plan our vacation for the long weekend. If you’re planning to visit Thailand, PDRM has a reminder for you.
Malaysians who will be travelling to Thailand during the Deepavali holidays are asked to be careful. According to PDRM, there have been 7 bombings in Southern Thailand in just 2 days – October 9 and 10.
In an official statement by PDRM, the Inspector-General Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain urged all Malaysians to be alert on current issues.
“I know that many Malaysians will be visiting Thailand during the Deepavali holidays. Please be careful, and I advise to avoid the targeted bombing areas. Get the latest information about the place you’re visiting before you’re there.”
According to the Bangkok Post, a total of 7 attacks and bombings believed to have been carried out by insurgents in Thailand’s southern provinces on October 9 resulted in the deaths of a policeman and a resident.
The attack targeted security forces in Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani provinces
Thousands of Malaysians often visit southern Thailand especially during school holidays and public holidays, usually passing through the border of Kelantan, Perlis, and Kedah.
Among the popular destinations that Malaysians often visit in Narathiwat is the coastal village of Ban Thon, which is located about 18 KM from Narathiwat town. In this village, tourists are often fascinated by the sight of low-flying planes near a famous restaurant, reminiscent of the 1970s British drama Fantasy Island.
To those who are planning to visit Thailand during the coming holidays, do take safety measures to avoid unwanted consequences.
