A 6-year-old boy in Singapore almost lost his toe after his foot was caught in an escalator at an MRT station in the country.
The incident happened on 1 July 2023 at around 2.30pm when the boy and his parents were at Singapore’s Botanic Gardens MRT station.
As reported by Shin Min Daily News, the boy was wearing a pair of Crocs during the incident, which has a large hole near the sole in the aftermath.
33-year-old Liang, the boy’s mother recalled how her son suddenly shouted halfway down the escalator and that is when the parents noticed what had happened.
Thankfully, the boy’s father was quick to help free the son from the escalator. The family initially declined help from passersby before realising that the injury was more severe than expected.
The boy had a nearly fractured toe, with a deep wound and was bleeding profusely. Hence, the family sought assistance from an MRT staff, who also closed off the escalator.
The staff then brought the boy to the MRT station’s first aid room but the wound was too deep, hence an ambulance was called.
The boy was then admitted to the National University Hospital and underwent a 2-hour operation for his dislocated toe and laceration. A small metal road has been inserted into his toe and he was given 25 days of sick leave for the injury.
