An elderly man is bringing magic to his neighbourhood after spending RM3,000 to purchase and install light fixtures to usher in the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
The Prime Minister’s Department took to its Facebook page to showcase the man’s hard work at his home in Kampung Sri Langkas, Puchong, which has left neighbours and local residents in awe.

A meaningful tradition
The department wrote: “For 64-year-old Zakariah Hamid, a private pensioner, the Aidilfitri celebrations become more meaningful when his home is decorated with lights that brighten the atmosphere in Kampung Sri Langkas. His passion for decorating has prompted him to make this a regular practice every festive season for the past few years.”
“Starting with traditional lamps and lanterns, he has now switched to solar lights, which are more practical and cost-effective. With an investment of around RM3,000, hundreds of sets of lights were installed around the house to create a bright and colourful display at night.”
Beyond regular decorations

The pensioner also chose to include replicas of national landmarks, such as the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower, in his display.
“The arrangement has made his home look unique and distinct from other decorations in the area,” the post continued.
“This initiative not only brightened the Aidilfitri atmosphere but also attracted residents from the surrounding areas to visit. Indirectly, it has revived the neighbourhood spirit and fuelled the festive mood within the local community,” the department added.
