A 40-year-old woman was diagnosed with Covid-19 after taking the same lift as an infected patient.
According to Oriental Daily, the incident happened in South Korea where there are 6,284 confirmed cases and 40 reported deaths at the time of writing.
The woman, a civil servant working in Seongdong-gu, Seoul was suspected to be infected in her residential building after taking the lift with an infected patient. The lift ride only took one minute and neither of them had masks on.
Choi Jae-wook, president of the Korean Medical Association said that the space in lifts are very narrow and makes it difficult for passengers to maintain a safe distance of more than two metres. The virus could, therefore, be transmitted through tiny droplets in the air or through contact with elevator buttons.
This is why it’s extremely important for you to avoid touching elevator buttons as it is probably one of the most-touched surfaces. Always remember to frequently wash your hands with soap and water and avoid touching your face when in public places.
Together, we can survive this virus.
