Four SPM students at Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Lipis, Pahang have tested positive for Covid-19, resulting in 144 SPM students being quarantined.
According to Astro Awani, the first positive case was detected on Tuesday (19 January), one day before SPM and STPM exam candidates returned to physical classes.
Pahang National Security Council (MKN) director, Mohd Zairasyahli Shah Zakaria said that 142 female students have been quarantined at the Housing and Government Training Institute (I-KPKT) in Bukit Tinggi after holding joint discussions including Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara). Meanwhile, two male students have been quarantined at the school hostel.
This was done as a safety measure for all parties, he said, adding that there were 20 people with symptoms initially, which later increased to 30 people within 10 days.
He also said that three more students were later found to be Covid-19 positive the next day (20 January) and were sent to the hospital.
Zairasyahli added that the transfer of students using buses was accompanied by members of the police as a safety measure, reported Sinar Harian.
“There are three accompanying teachers brought in to look after the welfare of students throughout their placement at the quarantine centre,” he said.
Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq has commented on the case saying that a ‘Student Cluster’ could be formed because the government is not listening to the voices of the students.
“(There is going to be a) Student Cluster because they are still stubborn and do not want to hear the voices of the students,” he wrote.
“We never learn. Stay strong students. Make your voice heard!”
