A couple with 6 children in Taiwan were heading back to their hometown for the upcoming Chinese New Year, but sadly, they didn’t make it.

The electric vehicle (EV) that was driven by the 40-year-old husband and father crashed into a divider at a rest stop before it caught fire, trapping the entire family inside the car.

The crash killed 4 lives, including 3 of the children, while the remaining 4 sustained severe injuries.

In a report by the Taiwanese media, 3 of the children belong to the couples, while the other 3 belong to the couples’ relatives. The 40-year-old man was also among the casualties.

The children who did not make it were aged 10, 4, and 2. They were all sent to the hospital but to no avail, and one of them suffered a third-degree burn on 90% of her body.

Those who survived are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, which includes the wife. The 3 other children who survived are aged 11, 8, and 4.

In a dashcam footage by another driver, eyewitnesses said that the EV did not slow down before hitting the divider. According to the police, the EV was overloaded with passengers as was meant to fit only 5 passengers, and at the time of the incident, the car was carrying a total of 8 passengers.
