3 civil servants and 4 foreign women were among 18 Muslim individuals detained in a routine operation conducted by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ), after they were found to be drinking alcohol at an entertainment centre in Johor Bahru last night (25 December).
According to a post by the “Lampu suluh Benteras Maksiat JAINJ” Facebook page, the raid was carried out at about 11:30 PM, when they were enjoying loud music at the entertainment centre and were not aware of the presence of enforcement officers at the premises.

“Those apprehended consisted of 14 locals and 4 foreign women, namely Singaporeans and Indonesians who are Muslims. 3 civil servants were also apprehended,” they shared.
The post further explained that all those detained were found to have committed the offence of drinking alcohol, under Section 19 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997.
If convicted, they can be fined up to RM3,000 or face imprisonment of a maximum of 2 years, or both. All of those detained have since been taken to the JAINJ Enforcement Office for further investigation.
