No one wants any sort of hiccup on their big day, especially on their wedding day. A pair of Malaysian newlyweds in Penang, however, had no idea their wedding was going to turn out disastrous, and to no fault of theirs.
Guests had no choice but to dine in the dark after the electricity unexpectedly got cut off.
The groom, Vince shared the horrifying experience of his wedding which took place in December 2023 via 2 Facebook posts.
“Delete your FB posts or no compensation”
The wedding continued despite the absence of electricity and for hours, guests had to dine in the dark. Some even had to leave earlier because they were uncomfortable with the heat.
“The PA system wasn’t working, we couldn’t play our wedding video. I felt sorry for the MC who was sweating. Eventually, I stepped in as the MC to help control the situation.”
Vince immediately called the management and asked their help to sort the matter, however, Vince was asked if anyone at the scene meddled with the plugpoints that caused the blackout. Regardless, a foreign worker was dispatched to the scene to handle the blackout, but to no avail.
The electricity came back but only to certain parts of the area.
After the wedding, Vince once again reached out to the person in charge, who agreed to get back to him as soon as she could. 8 days later, there was still no response. After multiple calls and texts that were not reciprocated, Vince decided to make the incident viral, which got the attention of the management of the wedding hall.
And they were not happy about it.
“We were told to remove our viral posts before any settlement took place.”
Vince said that they were given only 15 minutes to remove the post, which was before 2:30am, and compensation would be given at 3am.
“We gave you 2 weeks, and you gave us 15 minutes?”
“RM4.5K, go honeymoon!”
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Vince said that they received RM4,500 as the final compensation, which was half the price of the wedding package. It baffled Vince when he was told,
“Take this RM4,500 and go to honeymoon or whatever. At least you’ll feel better.”
Vince also told WORLD OF BUZZ that he decided to circulate the matter online as a form of customer feedback.
“We hope they can take this as an opportunity to improve their service. Save yourself from the refunds, and make sure history does not repeat itself.”
The blackout was not the only issue but also the last-minute changes in the menu which Vince was not alerted about.
You can go through Vince’s lengthy and detailed Facebook posts here, and here. At the time of writing, the management of the wedding venue has issued a public apology.
We’re sorry to hear that Vince and his bride didn’t have a smooth wedding. Hopefully, all wedding planners out there can take this unfortunate incident as a lesson to up their game.
