Some people have the luxury of travelling overseas every year and making sure that they filled up the memories of their vacation on their Instagram highlights, checking their bucket lists 1 by 1.
Of course, not everyone has the luxury to travel overseas every year, and some may have never stepped out of the country in their whole life. Just recently, a 30-year-old Malaysian man confessed his regret about being laughed at by his peers for never having gone overseas for vacation.
“I was born poor and I started working earlier than many of you”
The man recently joined a WhatsApp group that was created by his friend to reunite their secondary school gang. What was supposed to be nostalgic turned out to be a mood killer when everyone started talking about their overseas trip.
And it was even awkward when his friends found out that he has never been overseas in his entire life.
He explained that he was born into a poor family and to support his family, he started working once he finished high school.
“I had younger sisters and brothers to take care. I didn’t want them to be like me, so they could at least further their studies in universities.”
Back then, he could only save RM100 per month. The man, however, did not disclose his job.
“It’s not that I don’t wanna go overseas. I’m just not like many of you who have extra money and can afford to travel.”
At the end of his confession, the man urged his friends who laughed at his situation to be mindful of some people’s condition.
“Not everyone is as lucky as you, and not everyone is able to travel without any worry.”
“You’re a great brother!”
Many netizens who came across the post wished the brother well, especially for all his time and energy which were devoted to taking care of the siblings.
“You’re a great brother! You don’t have to compare yourself, because you just have to be yourself and do whatever you think is right. Bless you!”
“Your brothers and sisters are lucky to have you. Good luck.”
“Stay positive, you’re an amazing brother!”
It’s always fun to travel overseas and explore the wonders of the world but unfortunately, not everyone can afford to do so.
