A 26-year-old unemployed man in Sabah was fined RM11,300 by the Magistrate Court in Tawau for drunk driving and causing an accident.
He was also sentenced to 12 months and 21 days in jail after pleading guilty to all 3 charges, namely,
- Driving under the influence of alcohol and causing an accident
- Driving without a valid driver’s license
- Driving without a valid insurance
The man, Mohd Shafiezan Hassan is also not allowed to re-apply for his driver’s licence for the next two years, effective today (February 13), reported Berita Harian.

He caused MAJOR damage to a bank and several cars
In an incident that took place on December 29 last year, Shafiezan drove under the influence of alcohol at Jalan Mahkamah around 4:15 PM and crashed into the glass door of the Self-Service Terminal Room of RHB Bank.


The bank had to bear the cost of RM200,000 for the maintenance and repair fee. Unfortunately, five other drivers also had to suffer the consequences.
Shafiezan damaged 5 other cars that were parked near the bank when he was drunk driving.
In her argument, the prosecuting officer, Assistant Superintendent Joan Lee, requested a heavy sentence for the accused as a lesson to both the accused and the general public.
