A distressing incident took place at a food stall in Punggol, Singapore recently after a 5-year-old boy got a 1cm-long metal wire stuck in his throat while eating bihun.
The incident, as well as the eatery staff’s dismissive response to the ordeal, was shared by the boy’s mother to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group, catching the attention of netizens.

In the post, the boy’s mother shared that the family was having dinner at the eatery when her youngest son suddenly said that his throat was in pain.
The father urgently checked and removed the food near his mouth, but the boy still complained about the pain.
The mother then decided to tilt the boy’s head and saw there was a 1cm-long strand of aluminium inside his throat while having the white bihun and rushed to make the boy spit out the metal piece.
The parents were pissed by the staff’s dismissive response
The boy’s father then walked to the shop and told the female staff about the incident but she just replied, “What do you want me to do about it?”.
Pissed at the staff’s attitude, the mother said that the family won’t be having dinner at the eatery again.
The metal wire got into the bihun due to improper kitchen practices
Following the incident going viral, Shin Min Daily News contacted the eatery, where the staff said that she planned to refund the victim and ensure the kitchen practices were improved.
As for how the aluminium strand got there, she said that she usually uses a metallic scrub for dishwashing after cooking. With the post, Shin Min Daily News shared a photo of the staff cleaning a wok with the dishwashing scrub.
However, the mother told the publication that the family is not interested in money and is disappointed by the attitude of the staff.
