Tragedy struck early yesterday morning (Jan 7), as a 17-year-old female student allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of her school building, The Star reported.
She sustained serious injuries on impact, fracturing a leg and suffering severe head injuries. The allegation that she jumped is tied to a chair that was found near where she fell from.
The incident is believed to have happened at 6.50am. The emergency unit at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital said they were alerted of the incident at around 6.55am. The victim was still breathing when she was found by paramedics and was rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital by ambulance.
Officers from Kota Setar District Police Headquarters are currently carrying out an investigation into the matter.
Reports of youth suffering from psychological strain and depression have been increasing. Hence, the authorities are urging parents and guardians to be extra alert and to seek help immediately if they think their children are suffering from such issues.
