The missing 15-year-old Cheras girl was cremated yesterday (January 3). She went missing on December 19 last year, and her decomposing body was found at the garbage gate at a river in Banting 9 days later.
Yap Xin Yuan’s body was dumped into a crocodile habitat
A team from China Press personally visited the river where Xin Yuan’s body was discovered and found the waterway filled with garbage. China Press also spoke to a construction worker near the area, who confirmed that there were at least three crocodiles in the river.
The river, Sungai Changgang, is “hidden.” Before reaching it, one has to pass through a muddy road and cross an oil plantation.
Despite the condition of the river, multiple people were spotted fishing in the area, who also confirmed with China Press that, from time to time, corpses are found floating there.
“I saw the crocodile once but when it saw me fishing, it disappeared from the water surface,” the construction worker said.
Despite the presence of the reptile, the construction worker said that so far, there have been no cases of a crocodile attack.
When asked whether bodies were often found in the area, he said that some of the bodies found in the area were believed to have flowed from Kajang and Semenyih in the upper reaches of the Lenggeng River.
He also said that flood season is the easiest time to discover a corpse that is washed into the river.
At the time of writing (January 4), PDRM has detained all 3 suspects in Xin Yuan’s murder – her 16-year-old boyfriend, his father, and brother.
The 16-year-old confessed his involvement in the murder, and police are still investigating the motive of the murder.
