A 35-year-old father pleaded guilty at the Kuching Magistrate Court for allowing his 15-year-old son to drive without supervision after the latter’s dangerous driving caused the death of 5 individuals in an accident along Jalan Stutong Baru earlier this year.

The charge was framed under Section 33(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for the offence of leaving a child without reasonable supervision.

Meanwhile, in a separate proceeding at the same court, the 15-year-old son pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving that resulted in the deaths of 5 individuals on 14 January. This charge was framed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

During the accident, the teenager lost control of the vehicle he was driving and crashed into two vehicles and two motorcycles. 4 victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment.

The teenager also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of driving a motor vehicle while underage. This charge was framed under Section 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan fixed 17 June for the next case mention, pending a probation report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM). He was granted bail at RM5,000 with his parents acting as sureties.
