In the early morning of 24 October, a lorry suddenly went rampage when a police patrol car tried to pull it over for inspection. In the end, the lorry driver was discovered to be a 15-year-old teen. This incident happened in Johor Bahru on Wednesday.

According to The Star, the police first spotted the lorry behaving suspiciously in Taman Setia Indah at 4am and had instructed the driver to pull over. However, the teenager refused to do so and tried to outrun the cops by driving into the Tebrau Industrial Area 2 before going into the Pasir Gudang Highway.

During the pursuit, the lorry rammed into several police vehicles and even ploughed through a police blockade set up at the Plentong exit of the highway. Three warning shots were fired into the air but that didn’t stop the driver.

“A total of 16 police cars were involved in the chase, with four vehicles from Johor Bahru South and 12 others from Seri Alam.

“Two vehicles from Seri Alam were totalled. The first was part of the blockade set up at the Plentong intersection and the second was damaged when the lorry rammed into it after it tried to reverse out of a dead end,” Johor Bahru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais said, adding that some of the teen’s evasive manoeuvre included risky turns at speeds of up to 75km/h.

Luckily, another lorry driven by a member of the public assisted the police to block the culprit, thus putting an end to the 45-kilometre chase that lasted about 90 minutes. None of the cops was injured and the suspect injured himself lightly when being handcuffed.

The teen is now being treated at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has dropped out of school and doesn’t have a criminal record.

According to his statement, he had only wanted to ‘test drive’ the lorry since the key was left in the keyhole. The police have taken statements from eyewitnesses including the owner of the lorry.

Well, we’re glad that no one was seriously injured in this high-speed chase. Also, good thing the other lorry driver offered to help the police!
