In recent news, a male student from a secondary school in Kangar suffered injuries after falling off the roof of a pedestrian walkway on the school grounds.

BERNAMA reported that the 14-year-old fell from the roof, allegedly after using an electronic cigarette (vape) he found under a desk in a first-floor classroom.

Kangar District Police Chief Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the police got a call about the incident from a teacher at 10:50 AM, who mentioned the student had minor injuries to his feet and knees.

After finding the vape under a desk, the student, along with 2 friends, went to the back of the building to try it out.

Following the attempt, the student started to feel his body heat up and decided to go up to the roof of the pedestrian walkway for some fresh air. Unfortunately, while on the roof, he stepped on a fragile section and fell.

Harian Metro also reported that the boy was allegedly using a mushroom-flavoured vape, which is quite popular among school students.

The student’s family was called to the Kangar police station, and after an initial urine test came back negative, the student was handed back to them.

According to The Straits Times, Perlis education director Rose Aza Che Ariffin said the department and the school are working with the police on the investigation.

The school has been told to look into who supplied the vape and follow up on the student’s urine test before sending a report to the Student Affairs Unit at the Perlis State Education Department.
