The new iPhone X has just been unveiled at Apple’s September 2017 keynote. Many iSheeps have been head over heels obsessed with the phone due to its many amazing features such as Face ID, wireless charging, being water-resistant, and more.

Though Apple fans are ecstatic about the new product, the not-so-rich-and-logical people couldn’t help but compare the exorbitant price of the iPhone to paying for other far better things.

After all, the iPhone X is priced at a whopping USD$999 (RM4,200) for the 64GB and USD1,149 (RM4,830) for the 256GB!

This is by far Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet as even Americans find it to be too costly. With all that money spent on just one phone, there are actually loads of other thing we can do with the same amount.

So here’s a list of things we’d rather spend that money on.

1. Down payment for a Malaysian car

The Perodua and Proton cars are made specifically for Malaysians whereby they are affordable yet still comfortable enough to travel around. Plus, many of these cars are actually fuel-efficient too.

The cost of these budget-friendly and mid-range cars range from RM37,000 to RM60,000. Typically, the down payment for most cars would be about 10 per cent of the total cost. Instead of buying the overpriced phone, you could own a car!

2. Paying back a portion of our PTPTN loan

Almost every Malaysian fresh graduate today would have PTPTN loans to repay. We owe thousands of ringgits to the government body just as we finish our undergraduate studies and have to pay back about RM100 to RM300 a month (or more if you can afford to).

We can actually settle about two years’ worth of our debt with that RM4,000!

3. 4D3N stay in Club Med Maldives (including flight tickets)

For about RM2,700, a couple can enjoy 3 nights in the most sought-after holiday experience in Club Med Maldives. The best part about booking with Club Med is that the price even includes all meals, water sports activities and many family-friendly amenities!

Meanwhile, flights from Kuala Lumpur to the little island costs about RM2,000 for a couple too. In fact, if you book much earlier with great promotions, you could even get flight tickets from as low as RM1,000 for two people!

So, you can have your dream honeymoon come true instead of purchasing an iPhone X.

Based on an average of RM15 per meal, Malaysians can actually eat 280 meals at McDonald’s instead of buying the 64GB smartphone.

In fact, McDonald’s often offers lower prices during lunch and dinner hours so that 280 meals could easily go up to over 300 meals.

5. Two months’ rent for a double storey terrace house in the Klang Valley

A typical mid-range double storey terrace house in the suburbs such as Shah Alam, Subang and Ampang would set us back at about RM2,000 to RM3,000 a month.

So, you could actually get a super comfortable roof over your head for more than a month for the same price of that phone. In fact, if you opt for more budget-friendly and smaller homes, you could even pay for rent for a few months!

Prices of groceries are rather expensive nowadays, what with the GST incurred and all. Can you imagine the amount of money your parents (or you) need to pay every month just for food and household items?

For the price of one phone, you could actually feed a whole family for about 8 months without problem. Heck, you could even choose the better home products and organic vegetables rather than the budget ones with that amount of cash around.

10. 328 cans of Milo powder

A typical 500 grams tin of Milo powder costs about RM12.50 (on Lazada). You could actually buy up to 328 cans of the chocolate malt drink with RM4,000.

Even if a can cost more than that in the supermarket, you could still purchase about 300 cans! That’s a lot of Milo!

Concert tickets these days aren’t cheap anymore because they usually include a lot of pyrotechnics, special lighting, high-end sound systems, etc.

Nasi lemak is Malaysia’s staple meal. It is somehow perfect for any time of the day and it is one of the cheaper options too. A typical nasi lemak bungkus costs about RM2.50 these days in the Klang Valley.

In fact, certain stalls still charge from as low as RM1.50 too but that price is considered super low and rare to find anymore in KL.

But you get the point, lah. That’s a lot of nasi lemak there…
