Well, if you’re in the midst of preparing your mind, soul and body to collect your result slip, let’s not forget that SPM is just another chapter in your life and it isn’t the end. So don’t stress it! Instead, start looking out for a good course and uni that you might want to further your studies at and focus on the future!

If this is you, here’s a list of scholarships for students who have recently completed their SPM, finished their pre-university programme or are undergoing university/college studies.

P.S: Do note that many scholarships have a short application period (usually from March to the beginning of April, so check their official websites for more details.

 

1. Yayasan Khazanah

Yayasan Khazanah offers two types of scholarships at selected local (Khazanah Watan Scholarship Programme) and overseas (Khazanah Global Scholarship) universities. Do check your eligibility via the website.

*For foundation studies, candidates of Khazanah Global Scholarship have to undergo the A-levels programme at Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM)

Programmes: Pre-university, Undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD

Courses:

  • Business: Finance, Accountancy, Law, International Business, Actuarial Sciences, etc
  • Engineering: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, etc
  • Life Sciences: Biotechnology, etc
  • Medicine: Only for Khazanah Watan Scholarship Programme at selected approved universities (UM, UKM, USM, UPM and UIAM)
  • Other Disciplines/Courses: Non-traditional/niche-area subjects that are critical to national development

*Preference will be given to Accounting, Economics, Finance and Investments, Public Policy, and Political Science students

Institutions: Selected local and overseas universities in this list

Offers:

  • Full academic fees
  • Living expenses
  • Accommodation
  • Development and training support

Condition: Recipients are required to serve Khazanah Nasional or other approved organisations for a duration equal to the period of studies (minimum two years)

 

2. Shell Scholarship

SPM leavers who want to pursue their tertiary education in engineering, geoscience or commerce can look into this Shell Scholarship.

Eligibility:

  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extracurricular activities
  • Minimum 8As (A/A+) in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) OR Excellent O-level grades at IGCSE (A*/A)
  • Prior to application, ensure you are eligible to work in the country where the scholarship program is offered.
  • Not exceeding 18 years of age

Programmes: A-levels (at Kolej Tuanku Jaafar) and undergraduate programmes (at prestigious local as well as overseas universities depending on performance)

Courses:

  • Engineering: Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Petroleum, Electrical & Electronics
  • Sciences: Geology, Geosciences, Geomatics, Geophysics
  • Commercial: Human Resources, Business & Management

 

3. The Star Education Fund Scholarship Awards

The Star offers scholarships to SPM, UEC and STPM leavers for selected Foundation, Diploma, and Degree programmes of specific private institutions. Students who have already enrolled at any university or college may apply as well.

Eligibility:

  • Malaysians of not more than 25 years of age
  • Excels in extra-curricular activities or active in sports
  • Possesses reasonably good results in SPM, UEC, or STPM

Programmes: Pre-University, selected Diploma and Degree courses

Courses and institutions: Certain programmes from local private institutions in this list

Offer: Fully paid tuition fees and/or other incidental expenses by the participating colleges/institutions

 

4. Yayasan Tenaga Nasional

Yayasan Tenaga Nasional offers scholarships for programmes in both local and overseas universities. For SPM leavers, the foundation offers scholarships for overseas universities and Foundation programmes at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). Those who have finished their STPM can also look for their undergraduate scholarship. You can check the eligibility of the scholarship from the website.

Programmes: Foundation (UNITEN and overseas universities) and Undergraduate (UNITEN, overseas universities and local public universities)

Courses:

  • Engineering: Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering (available for UNITEN, overseas universities and local public universities)
  • Accounting
  • Computer Science (UNITEN only)
  • Business Studies (UNITEN only)
  • Finance (Not available for local public universities)
  • Data Science & Analytics
  • Business Analytics (Only for overseas universities)

 

5. Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Community Scholarship

Jeffrey Cheah offers various scholarships for people with different needs. But for SPM leavers with low household incomes, you can try the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Community Scholarship.

Eligibility:

  • 18 to 25-year-old Malaysians from residential care homes, community centres or poor and needy communities with a household income of less than RM24,000 per annum
  • SPM/ O-Levels/ UEC/ STPM and other equivalent qualifications
  • Meet the minimum requirements of the programme

Courses:

  • Diploma in Events Management
  • Diploma in Hotel Management
  • ACCA
  • CAT
  • Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB)
  • Diploma in Accounting
  • Diploma in Business Administration
  • Diploma in Communication

6. Sin Chew Daily Education Fund

Sin Chew Daily Education Fund provides scholarships for SPM and pre-university leavers. They offer sponsors to people who applied for courses and institutions listed on their website as well.

Courses and institutions: Certain programmes from local private institutions in the list

Offer: Full sponsor of education programme

 

7. Nanyang Siang Pau Education Fund

Based on their official website, they offer tuition fee waivers on selected courses by 21 participating colleges and universities. School leavers should check whether the programme(s) they are interested in is on the list.

Programmes: Selected Foundation, Diploma and Degree programmes

Courses and institutions: 21 participating local private colleges/universities in the list.

Offer: Full/ half/ partial fee waiver

 

8. Yayasan Sime Darby

Yayasan Sime Darby offers scholarships for pre-university programmes with overseas studies opportunities in China and UK. For the UK, candidates have to undergo Foundation studies for two years at Kolej Yayasan UEM before beginning their undergraduate studies in the UK.

Yayasan Sime Darby Pre-University Scholarship Programme (China)

Eligibility:

  • Malaysians not more than 18 years of age
  • Minimum 7As (A+ and A only) in SPM, with A+ for both Additional Mathematics and Mathematics
  • Total monthly gross household income of RM10,000 and below

Programmes: foundation (two years at Beijing Language and Culture University in China) and undergraduate in China

Courses:

  • Chinese Language (with Foundation studies in Economics)
  • Chinese Language (with Foundation studies in Business Studies)
  • Chinese Language (with Foundation studies in Finance)

  • Malaysians of not more than 18 years of age
  • Minimum 7As (A+ and A only) in SPM
  • Total monthly gross household income of not more than RM10,000

Programmes: Foundation (two years at Kolej Yayasan UEM) and undergraduate in UK

Courses:

  • Selected Business, Engineering, and Science related courses only

9. Bank Negara Malaysia

Bank Negara Malaysia has three types of scholarship: Kijang (pre-university), Undergraduate, and Postgraduate Scholarships. Current undergraduate and postgraduate students can also apply for the scholarship. Offers and conditions are not mentioned.

Eligibility: Minimum 8As (A+ and A only) in SPM for Kijang Scholarship

Programme: Pre-University, Undergraduate and Postgraduate

Courses: Economics, Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Law, and Computer Science

Institutions: Top universities as per the Bank’s list of approved universities (not stated)

10. Yayasan TM

If your household income does not exceed RM20,000 per month and no sibling is a recipient of the Yayasan TM Scholarship, then you are eligible to apply provided you have fulfilled the academic and co-curriculum criteria.

Eligibility:

  • Minimum 6As (Malay, English, History, Physics, Mathematics and Additional Mathematics) in SPM for science stream OR minimum 4As (Malay, English History, Mathematics) in SPN for non-science stream
  • Age of not more than 21 years old
  • Active in co-curricular activities
  • Household income not exceeding RM20,000 per month
  • No siblings under the YTM Scholarship

Programmes: Foundation and Degree

Courses:

  • Information Technology: Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Mobile Computing, Software Engineering, Game Development, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Data Communication and Networking
  • Engineering: Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering

11. Hong Leong Foundation

The foundation offers non-bonding scholarships to Malaysian citizens who are going to study or already studying for their Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Undergraduate studies.

Eligibility:

  • Malaysians aged between 17 and 25 years old who have sat for the SPM examinations
  • Minimum 8As for SPM OR minimum CGPA of 3.5 in STPM/ Matriculation/ A-levels/ Foundation/ Diploma/ Degree

Programmes: Diploma and Undergraduate

Courses: Diploma, advanced diploma and undergraduate course in ANY full-time course/ field

Institutions: Recognised public and private universities and colleges in Malaysia

Offers:

  • Undergraduate courses in public universities – RM8,500/= p.a.
  • Diploma/Advanced Diploma courses in public & local private universities – RM6,000/= p.a.
  • Undergraduate studies at local private universities – up to RM24,000/= p.a.
  • Medicine/Dentistry in local private universities – up to RM32,000/= p.a.

*This is a non-bonding scholarship

 

12. Yayasan Bank Rakyat

Yayasan Bank Rakyat offers Pembiayaan Pendidikan Boleh Ubah (PPBU) for needy students who plan to pursue or are pursuing their Diploma or even PhD in any local public or private higher learning institutions. Only those who have gained admission or are in the first year of their studies can apply.

Eligibility:

  • Poor and underprivileged Malaysians
  • Qualified to a full-time course at local public or private institutions recognised by the government

Programmes: Diploma, Bachelor Degree, Professional Studies, Masters, and PhD

Courses: All fields of study except medical and aviation (license) courses

*Priority is given in the order of Accounting, Banking, Business Management, Human Resources, Economy, Media Communication, Law, and Actuarial Science

Institutions: Recognized by the Public Services Department (JPA), Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Malaysian Vocational Training Council (NVTC), and Government Agencies (Malaysia) as well as acknowledged by the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Bank Rakyat

Offers:

  • Skill Certificate: Maximum of RM30,000 for two years
  • Skill Diploma: Up to RM30,000 for three years
  • Diploma: Maximum of RM7,500 annually (RM5,000 for UiTM & Politeknik)
  • Degree: Maximum of RM9,500 annually (RM6,500 for UiTM & Politeknik)
  • Professional: Up to RM28,500 for two years
  • Masters: Maximum of RM12,000 annually
  • Doctorate PhD: Up to RM55,800 for three years

Condition: Repayment based on CGPA

  • 3.50-4.00: 0% repayment
  • 3.00-3.49: 30% repayment
  • 2.75-2.99: 50% repayment
  • 2.50-2.74: 70% repayment
  • <2.50: 100% repayment

 

13. George Kent Tertiary Education Scholarship

This scholarship covers tuition fees, living allowances, laptop and textbooks for students who intend to pursue a Diploma or Degree in selected Engineering and Accounting & Finance courses.

Eligibility:

  • Minimum 5As for SPM OR minimum 2As+3Bs in STPM OR minimum CGPA 3.33 in Matriculation/ Diploma/ A-levels
  • 21 years old and below
  • Third and fourth-year university students must be 24 years old and below
  • Household income not exceeding RM5,000 per month
  • Healthy with no medical conditions
