Do you remember when we were younger, as Asians, we received all kinds of disciplinary measures? The scoldings, being locked out of the house and of course, the legendary rotan. Although they do not make for pleasant childhood memories, we know that our parents did it for our own good. But this father, on the other hand, may have gone overboard with his teachings.

According to The Sun, a 10-year-old boy who was chained by his neck was found in a supermarket scavenging for food in Velikovechnoye village, Russia.

Known as Tickhon, the boy was reportedly chained by his father as a form of punishment for being naughty. The boy, who was starved of food and water while being chained, managed to escape when his would-be politician father failed to properly lock the shackles up.

Tickhon ran to a local shop in Velikovechnoye village with the metal noose still clasped around his neck.

The 10-year-old boy was found by the checkout staff of the store, who saw him with shackles on as he tried to grab the food on the shelves. They questioned him about the chain and Tickhon told them that his father had imprisoned him in a shed.

The 46-year-old unnamed man had rushed out to the hospital as his second wife was in labour while Tickhon was left alone at home. According to reports, the confined boy managed to free himself by breaking the wooden bar to which the chain was fixed.

Tickhon had begged for the staff to not tell his father that he had escaped. Sure enough, they didn’t call the dad, they just called the police.

CCTV footage showed that the boy still had his padlocked chain on and firefighters freed him from the constraints.

The officers were told that he had been regularly chained by the neck in the cellar or shed or fixed to a radiator in the family’s home, often for long periods.

Tickhon was taken for medical checks and was later put into a social rehabilitation center.

The Kremlin’s children’s ombudswoman, Anna Kuznetsova, intervened to call on the Russian Investigative Committee to probe the allegations about the businessman, who had ambitions to go into politics.

Tickhon’s real mother has demanded that the boy be removed from the businessman’s care, as he had been living with the man and his stepmother.

“I am extremely concerned about his fate,” said his mother, Viktoria.

“I want him to be with me, and not with his tyrant dad.”

The father, who has two children with his second wife, was called in for questioning regarding the incident.

The man reportedly had said that the boy locked himself in chains.

Sure, handling and raising kids may sometimes get a little stressful but that doesn’t justify the action of abuse under the guise of educating them. Remember, abuse is never the answer! If you or anyone you know is suffering from any form of abuse, promptly contact the relevant authorities in your area.
