16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen was murdered in SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 4 in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on 14 October, and the 14-year-old suspect from the same school is still undergoing psychiatric evaluation in Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak.
The suspect was sent to the hospital on 22 October, and nearly a month later, the psychiatrists are still in the midst of completing the evaluation.

An additional month is needed to complete the psychiatric evaluation reports to ensure that the juvenile is fit for trial
The lawyer representing the juvenile defendant. Kitson Foong was at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court this morning (21 November) and told the media that the psychiatric evaluation was very important to ensure the juvenile could sit for the trial.
Kitson also said that the boy’s family would cooperate with the work of psychiatric experts to ensure that a complete report is completed.
The 14-year-old suspect, however, did not appear in court today, as Kitson said he is still at the hospital. The Magistrate’s Court has set a hearing for the matter on 19 December, as reported by China Press.

The shocking murder that rocked Malaysia
Over a month after Shing Xuen’s departure, her grieving mother penned a heartfelt post, reminiscing on the plans made that could’ve happened, saying that the family had planned to take Shing Xuen on a cruise in China.
The juvenile suspect was rumoured to have confessed his feelings to Shing Xuen, which was debunked by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the victim’s family, as Shing Xuen had never personally known the suspect.
Earlier, Kitson also said an application was made under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which relates to procedures for accused persons suspected of being of unsound mind, which allows the court to conduct an investigation or trial based on the accused’s unsound mind.
