One of Malaysia’s treasures, the National Zoo or famously known as Zoo Negara is currently calling out for help as their operating costs are being affected amidst the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Zoo Negara’s main income is generated primarily from ticket sales and donations. Unfortunately, under the MCO, visitor count has taken a nosedive as people are required to adhere to restricted movement and avoid places of public gathering.

Zoo Negara had no choice but to manage their operation costs using emergency funds as there are no ticket sales and no organisation had come forward to contribute to the zoo’s fund amidst MCO.

“It is a big challenge for us to cover the zoo’s operating costs during this temporary closure as Zoo Negara relies on ticket sales, space rentals, corporate sponsorships and public donations for income,” said Rosly Rahmat Bin Ahmat Lana, Zoo Negara’s deputy president.

Rosly assured that all animals are healthy and they are in good shape. However, this emergency fund is only enough to sustain them for another three months.

“For those who wanted to donate, they can do so by participating in our Adopt An Animal campaign,” he said, reported the Star.

Unbeknownst to many, the “Adopt An Animal” campaign is implemented by most of the zoos around the world to raise revenue that will be used to maintain the well-being of the animals.

There are affordable adoption packages that people can look into when deciding to contribute. Adoption packages start from above RM50 to RM500. Those interested can either select their preferred adoption package or donate any amount that they can.

However, please do ensure and verify the legitimacy of the recipient which is Zoo Negara before donating to avoid any possible scams.

Concerned social media users have also utilised their social media platforms to help spread awareness regarding the urgency of the matter and also request for donations in hopes to help the zoo. (Note: Please verify any relevant information with Zoo Negara before proceeding to make your donation)

Zoo Negara offers an opportunity for the public to adopt various kinds of animals and help out with their annual food, enrichment and veterinary care. These animals include Samba the lion, Flash the leopard, cute little penguins and many more!

The fund from donation helps the zoo in providing good meals for the animals and afford health care for the various kinds of animals there.
