The public awareness of autism has been on the rise in the past few years. With cafes such as Autism Cafe Project and commercial companies that have taken in these special groups of people such as a McDonald’s outlet in Cheras, it is indeed heartwarming to see these extraordinary people being treated as equals and having a place in today’s society.
Recently, another cafe run by autistic staff members have just opened its doors to the public!
Rimau Cafe has been operating since January 9 this year. Located at Menara KBS, Presint 4, Putrajaya, this cafe is part of an effort thanks to the collaboration between the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM).
“The aim of Rimau Cafe is to help develop skills and provide training for youths with autism. This incentive allows them to have a chance to participate in skill development programs as well as contribute their abilities in industries that are well-suited for them,” said Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin, as reported by KBS.
According to KBS’s Facebook page, the concept of Rimau Cafe is “Authentic Learning’, which is specially developed to provide training in the field of hospitality for youths with autism.
Just like any other cafes out there, the menu is filled with an array of choices ranging from comfort food like lasagna and chicken pie, to confectionery like red velvet and cheese cake. Of course, you can also get your fix of caffeine here with your choice of coffee, making it an ideal place to hang out, especially with the company of these youths!
What a great initiative by our Ministry of Youth and Sports! Be sure to pay them a visit when you’re in the area!
