Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming recently said that 20 tonnes of garbage were collected after the ‘Turun Anwar’ protest, and claimed that participants of the event littered the place.
Nga added that the cleaners had to work until 3:30 AM to clean the mess, but a Member of Parliament (MP) from PAS disagreed with what the Minister had to say, and said that participants of the event cleaned the place, as opposed to the latter’s litterbugs statement.

According to PDRM, over 18,000 people turned up at the event, and Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, the MP for Alor Setar, said that if 20 tonnes of garbage were collected, that would mean each person produced 1.2 KG of garbage.
Afnan, in his video, holds an empty water bottle and refutes Kor Ming’s claims by saying,
“This empty bottle weighs around 4 to 5 grams. How many bottles of water does one participant need to drink to produce 1.2 KG of garbage?”
“At least make it believable, dear Minister. For your information, the Dataran Merdeka area was clear of rubbish after the rally.”

The Alor Setar MP also said the mess was not only taken care of by the social workers, but the participants themselves cleaned the place and collected the garbage by themselves. He added that the actions to clean the place were not meant to show off but to set an example of a peaceful rally.
“When you’re talking about the garbage at the event, you’re indirectly promoting the rally. So, thank you for that.”
Afnan also sarcastically suggested that Kor Ming talk about something else, and not the garbage on the road.
“You should talk about the ‘garbage’ in the government. You once said you wanted to put a ‘garbage’ into the prison, but he’s still the minister,” he said in his video titled ‘Garbage and Nga Kor Ming.’
Afnan, however, did not name the minister. What do you think of his take?
